An Outline On World Aviation Security Processes

By Gary Watson

Airlines are among the most vulnerable points of attack by criminals and terrorists. This is because people from numerous countries converge and diverge from this point. For this reason, it is significant to have tight world aviation security. Normally, there are common measures you will find in almost every airline. For a first time traveler, a number of these are unreasonable. However, for every safety procedure enacted, there is a reason behind it. Below is a description of six of these measures.

Before boarding planes, every traveler must go through body and bags checkpoints. Individuals and carrier bags are checked independently. If a screen detects metallic element, it raises an alarm that prompts officers to confirm what it is. The necessity for this process is that initially, several airlines have captured terrorists who hid grenades inside their carrier bags. Others hid objects in their pockets or attached them to body parts. By screening, officials are able to minimize such cases.

Several years ago, an airline headed to Detroit killed all passengers several minutes after take-off. A research carried out to ascertain the cause of that explosion found out that one passenger had managed to pass a cassette carrying an explosive. While the accident was primarily caused by that explosive the problem was at the airport. Had officers searched through every luggage thoroughly, it would have been prevented. Today, every luggage must undergo X-ray screening. Any element that is not permitted is detected before being airlifted.

A number of individuals carry knives or sharp objects probably for self-defense reasons. Others do it because of cultural upbringing. None of such objects is allowed in planes. First, if a disagreement arises between two passengers, they can attack each other using these objects. Notably, there are multiple criminals who have managed to capture planes using box cutters.

While undergoing body screening, detectors cannot sense an object hidden in worn shoes. Yet, it is possible to hide a bomb or explosive in your shoes. Having noted this, several airlines expect passengers to remove shoes while being screened. Due to health reasons, numerous travelers are against this law. However, in areas prone to attacks, it is a basic necessity.

Due to effective metal detection techniques, it became hard for criminals to proliferate assaults. New techniques where they could carry liquid explosives in bottles were invented. To stop it, a regulation that prevents individuals from carrying too big bottles was enacted. One can only carry a single and small bottle if need be. As a matter of fact, if it were possible to completely ban them, it would be much better.

Hand-held metal detectors are not completely effective. As a matter of fact, they are limited in nature. Since body screening is a necessity, these detectors had to be improved. Today, every passenger goes through an entire body scanning under improved X-ray scanners. Through these devices, any component that could be hidden even in the most private areas can be exposed. Even though scanners are very effective, there are concerns around privacy invasion and health safety.

There are all reasons to enhance safety in airports. Regardless of how unreasonable a safety measure looks, there is always a motivation behind it. This is why every step is being taken to ensure that proper security is upheld.
