Guidelines On How To Tie A Turban For Women

By Cathy Mercer

The turban is fast becoming a fashion item among many women these days. It is an odd yet creative and ethnic piece in the world of beauty. It is also a fashionable way of concealing bad hair. This article provides information on how to tie a turban for women to bring that out different look.

To begin the different styles of tying this head gear is the riveter wrap. Folding a square scarf diagonally, a person places the long edge of material at the nape of the neck. Then taking both ends of the scarf an individual brings them to the front and makes a light knot. A piece will be hanging at the back which is then pulled forward with hair gathered in it then inserted under the bind, after which knot is tightened.

Forehead wrap is the other simple way of tying a head scarf. With the hair tied in a pony or pushed backwards, one takes a square scarf, folds it diagonally into half forming a long triangle. The person will then take the straight edge of the material and place it along the forehead. The triangle part of scarf will point down at the neck. Taking the two ends of the material, one ties a tough knot.

A common wrap is the forehead band. One can do this in several ways. First is by gathering hair into a low pony and tying the material around the base of ponytail in a single tie. The second way is by folding a scarf to form a band at tying it like a bow around the head.

Crown style is a traditional wrap that utilizes a rectangular scarf or otherwise square clothing folded diagonally. Then the folded edge is placed along the forehead. Two ends will hang at the sides one longer than the other and a person then pulls them together to the back. The sides are then twisted while being spiraled round the head forming something like a crown. The twisted end is inserted under the knot at the back.

A famous way of wearing turbans is the African gele usually done by women from West Africa. Here they use special clothing but the ordinary scarf can work. The scarf should be folded forming a width of 6 inches and then it is wrapped over the head. One side should be longer than the other. The ends should then be tied over the other to create a bow at the front.

The final style is the rosette wrap. This uses a rectangular cloth folded diagonally. The long folded edge is then placed on the forehead and then both sides of material are brought towards one side of the head. The ends are then tied into a knot and one hanging end is twisted and spiraled around the knot forming a rosette. The other end is also done the same and the tips of both ends tucked into the scarf or secured with a pin.

This information on how to tie a turban for women provides the different ways one can tie this head gear. To learn these styles is easy though it requires practice to make perfect. One should have few bright colored and patterned scarves for different looks.
